Recap

TODAY SAW THE RETURN OF CHASETOWN SCHOLARS TO MSA,THIS TIME IN A LEAGUE FIXTURE.SCHOLARS KICKED OFF ,PLAYED THE BALL BACKWARDS,LAUNCHED A LONG BALL OVER THE TOP FOR THE STRIKER TO CHASE,TED CALLED FOR THE BALL AND THE DEFENDERS STOPPED,THE STRIKER BEAT TED TO THE BALL AND SLOTTED INTO AN EMPTY NET, 1-0 SCHOLARS AND WE HAD BARELY REGISTERED 30 SECONDS ON THE CLOCK.NOT A GREAT START AT ALL BUT THATS FOOTBALL UNFORTUNATELY.SCHOLARS WERE HERE FOR A GAME OF LONG BALL,THAT MUCH WAS GLARINGLY OBVIOUS AND WE HAD TO LEARN TO DEAL WITH IT. MSA SLOWLY STARTED TO GET THEMSELVES BACK IN THE GAME WITH SOME DECENT FOOTBALL INTERCHANGES BETWEEN FIN,BILLY(SON OF)TOM AND STAN, TOM LATCHING ONTO A BALL FROM STAN BUT A GOOD SHOT WENT OVER THE BAR. SCHOLARS AGAIN SENDING A BALL OVER FOR THE STRIKER BUT ALEX WAS EQUAL TO IT THIS TIME. MAKE NO  MISTAKE CHASETOWN WERE UP FOR THIS AND REALLY MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR OUR BOYS BY NOT ALLOWING TIME ON THE BALL AND FORCING US INTO NEEDLESS SILLY MISTAKES,(EASILY RECTIFIED BY MOVING THE BALL QUICKER AND LOTS OF TALKING) BUT WE WERE STARTING TO TAKE A HOLD ON THE GAME,A SUCCESSION OF CORNERS AND A FLURRY OF SHOTS FROM TOM EVANS,BILLY EDWARDS(SON OF) NONE OF WHICH CAME TO ANYTHING WERE BACKED UP BY JAY,BILLY ,ALEX ,ELLIS AND TOM KAIN AND JACK ALL PULLING SOME GREAT TACKLES OR HEADERS JUST AT THE RIGHT TIME TO PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE SCORELINE. WHEN THE EQUALISER DID COME IT WAS CERTAINLY WORTH WAITING FOR,THE BALL FOUND ITS WAY OUT ON THE LEFT TO ELLIS WHO CARRIED THE BALL FORWARD A LAUNCHED A SUPERB CROSS COME SHOT THAT FOUND ITS WAY INTO THE SCHOLARS NET,IT WAS MOST DEFINATELY DESERVED,WHETHER OR NOT ELLIS MEANT IT IS ONE FOR HIM TO DECIDE BUT EITHER WAY,GREAT GOAL, GREAT FINISH , 1-1. WE WERE ATTACKING FLUENTLY NOW WITH SOME GREAT FOOTBALL AT TIMES , MOZZA HAD THE BEATING OF THE LEFT BACK , FIN WAS TAKING NO PRISONERS WITH SOME REALLY STRONG HOLD UP PLAY AND DETERMINATION TO HOLD THE BALL. AS THE ATTACK BUILT UP , THE BALL WAS LAUNCHED INTO THE BOX BUT CLEARED TO ELLIS WHO,CONTROLLED THE BALL ON THE EDGE OF THE BOX AND RELEASED A HALF VOLLEY THAT RATTLED THE CROSS BAR, SUPER SHOT, OLLIE PICKED UP THE LOOSE BALL, COMPOSED HIMSELF AND LET GO A FIERCE SHOT STRAIGHT IN, 2-1 AND A CRACKING FINISH TO BRING THE BOYS BACK IN FRONT. MOZZA WAS INJURED SHORTLY AFTER THE KICK OFF , RUNNING AFTER A LOOSE BALL AND HAD TO LEAVE THE FIELD.

HALF TIME                 MSA 2-1 CHASETOWN SCHOLARS

THE SECOND HALF PRETTY MUCH CARRIED ON WITH MSA TAKING FULL CONTROL OF THE GAME , AGAIN SLICK PASSING AND QUICKER MOVEMENT OF THE BALL ALLOWED BILLY EDWARDS ,TOM, FIN ALL FINDING THEMSELVES IN GOOD POSITIONS TO HAVE SHOTS, TOM EVANS I THINK COULD HAVE STILL BEEN PLAYING NOW AND WOULDN’T HAVE SCORED,IT QUITE CLEARLY WASN’T HIS DAY IN FRONT OF GOAL. OUR DEFENDERS WERE PLAYING A HIGH LINE WHICH WAS A BIT RISKY AGAINST THE LONG BALL AND A COUPLE OF TIMES WE WERE CAUGHT OUT , ONE SUCH OPPORTUNITY WAS SUPERBLY CLEARED BY THE DETERMINATION OF ELLIS WHO WAS REALLY HAVING A SUPER GAME TODAY, BUT EVENTUALLY SCHOLARS GOT THE EQUALISER WHICH THEY WORKED HARD FOR TO BE FAIR. 2-2. BUT MSA WEREN’T FINISHED AND CONTINUED TO PUSH FOR THE WINNER WITH TOM AND BILLY TRYING BUT FAILING, FIN WAS REALLY CAUSING THEM PROBLEMS WITH HIS BATTLING MENTALITY , FRASER WAS CHIPPING IN WITH HIS STRENGTH OF SHOT FROM DISTANCE BUT WHEN MSA WON A CORNER, MOZZA CROSSED A LOW BALL IN AND WHO WAS THERE TO HALF VOLLEY IN……. ELLIS.SUPER FINISH FROM 6 YARDS OUT INTO THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER. SUPERB COMEBACK AND FINAL SCORE.

FULL TIME                    MSA 3-2 CHASETOWN SCHOLARS

THIS WAS A BATTLING PERFORMANCE , POSSIBLY ONE WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO WIN BUT THE EXTREMELY EARLY GOAL CONCEDED WAS A MASSIVE WAKE UP CALL, THANKFULLY. WE HAD THE LIONS’ SHARE OF THE GAME AND AT TIMES WE USED THE BALL INTELLIGENTLY, MAYBE SCORING MANY MORE ON ANOTHER DAY BUT, A WIN IS A WIN. CHASETOWN ARE NOT A PUSHOVER AND HAVE SOME GOOD PLAYERS HOWEVER, WE MORE THAN MATCHED THEM AND WITH THE GREATEST OF RESPECT, ONCE YOU LEARN HOW TO HANDLE THE LONG BALL TACTIC, IT DOESN’T LEAVE MUCH ELSE TO WORRY ABOUT. WE WERE ALMOST EQUAL TO THE LONG BALL, SO A BIT MORE PRACTICE ON THAT AND WE’LL BE FINE. ELLIS WAS IMMENSE TODAY, 2 CRACKING GOALS AND AN ALL ROUND PERFORMANCE TO MATCH, GETTING HIM THE PARENTS MOTM, BILLY EDWARDS (SON OF) WAS STRONG WITH THE BALL AT HIS FEET AND ALSO DOMINANT IN THE AIR EARNING COACHES MOTM. FOR ME TODAY I WAS PERSONALLY VERY IMPRESSED WITH FIN JELLEY, HE BATTLED HARD,GAVE NOTHING UP WORKED WELL FOR THE TEAM. BUT ON THE WHOLE WE DID VERY WELL WITH NO BAD PERFORMANCES AT ALL. APOLOGIES IF I MISSED ANYONE OUT BUT BOYS,YOU WERE ALL AWESOME TODAY.
